:: The MSC Malaysia International Advisory Panel (IAP)
- Global Strengths Convened for a Nation’s Global ICT Strategies

When the vision to accelerate the development and expansion of Malaysia‘s ICT industry first arose a little over a decade ago, the world’s pre-eminent industry icons were sought after and consulted to lend their expertise.

Many responded, and soon this grouping of world ICT titans was assembled into an elite circle. Thus, the MSC Malaysia International Advisory Panel (IAP) was born. January 16, 1997 was the day the world’s most influential ICT leaders, thinkers and researchers gathered and inaugurated the MSC-IAP at Stanford University, USA.

MSC Malaysia was conceived as a vision of purpose and goals, but it required the impetus to move forward. The MSC Malaysia IAP provided this through invaluable counsel in the form of direction, strategies and actionable ideas.

That first MSC Malaysia IAP Meeting smoothly paved the way for eight other meets. Through the attentive undertakings of the Multimedia Development Corporation (MDeC), the support of the Malaysian Government and overwhelming industry response, the MSC Malaysia IAP continues to explore new ground to convene and communicate.

The MSC Malaysia IAP works by providing a platform for industry giants to share their views. Over the years, this panel of appointed members and representatives have provided invaluable counsel and opinions to Malaysia and its ICT industry. Their input has been used to construct vital policies and directives for the development of MSC Malaysia.

From 22 MSC Malaysia IAP Members and Representatives in 1997, the number has now grown to 36. This year, for the 10th MSC Malaysia IAP Meeting, 2 new Members have been appointed by the Honorable Prime Minister of Malaysia, YAB Dato’ Seri Abdullah Ahmad bin Haji Ahmad Badawi to this important panel.

Each year, the MSC Malaysia IAP Meeting deliberates a unique set of issues gathered under a central theme. Each topic is selected for its urgency and bearing on the progress of the national ICT initiative.

MDeC, as the driver of MSC Malaysia and organiser of all previous MSC Malaysia IAP Meetings, has also created a global opportunity for the meeting of not just foreign minds, but local talents as well. MSC Malaysia IAP Members and Representatives also address local technopreneurs, entrepreneurs and representatives of government agencies.

The expected outcome of this is, of course, the conception of recommendations, breakthrough ideas, strategies, policies, and opportunities to further enhance the Malaysian ICT landscape, which in turn escalates the transformation of local ICT players into global-reaching entities.

MSC Malaysia has done very well in its first phase – it has achieved milestones set, and surpassed many. As such, this 10th MSC Malaysia IAP Meeting will undoubtedly be a highly anticipated event: charting the way forward for MSC Malaysia in this highly dynamic and competitive world.
